Garden State soundtrack lyrics

Waxing lyrical comes this week on a Thursday and also brings a bonus. Since I've been listening to the Garden State soundtrack like crazy the past couple of days I decided to put up every single lyric on the CD. It took me some time to track down the complete listing, partly because I had to just put in some lyrics of my own after careful listening. As far as I know this is the only complete listing on the internet, and believe me I looked for some time.

If you haven't heard the music from the movie yet, you need to get this album ASAP. There is some amazing stuff on this disc, and it all complements the movie perfectly. "You gotta hear these songs, they will change your life I promise you."

Don't Panic
By Coldplay

Bones sinking like stones / All that we've fought for / All these places we've grown / All of us are done for

And we live in a beautiful world / Yeah we do, yeah we do / We live in a beautiful world

Bones sinking like stones / All that we've fought for / All these places we've grown / All of us are done for

And we live in a beautiful world / Yeah we do, yeah we do / We live in a beautiful world (x2)

Oh all that I know / There's nothing here to run from / 'cos yeah, everybody here's got somebody to lean on

Caring is Creepy
By The Shins

I think I'll go home and mull this over / Before I cram it down my throat / At long last it's crashed, the colossal mass / Has broken up into bits in my moat.

Lift the mattress off the floor / Walk the cramps off / Go meander in the cold / Hail to your dark skin / Hiding the fact you're dead again / Underneath the power lines seeking shade / Far above our heads are the icy heights that contain all reason

It's a luscious mix of words and tricks / That let us bet when you know we should fold / On rocks I dreamt of where we'd stepped / And the whole mess of roads we're now on.

Hold your glass up, hold it in / Never betray the way you've always known it is. / One day I'll be wondering how / I got so old just wondering how / I never got cold wearing nothing in the snow.

This is way beyond my remote concern / Of being condescending

All these squawking birds won't quit. / Building nothing, laying bricks.

In the Waiting Line
By Zero 7

Wait in line / 'Till your time / Ticking clock / Everyone stop

Everyone's saying different things to me / Different things to me / Everyone's saying different things to me / Different things to me

Woooohh / Do you believe / In what you see / There doesn't seem to be anybody else who agrees with me

Do you believe / In what you see / Motionless wheel / Nothing is real / Wasting my time / In the waiting line / Do you believe in / What you see

Nine to five / Living lies / Everyday / Stealing time / Everyone's taking everything they can / Everything they can / Everyone's taking everything they can / Everything they can

Woooohh / Do you believe / In what you feel / It doesn't seem to be anybody else who agrees with me

Do you believe / In what you see / Motionless wheel / Nothing is real / Wasting my time / In the waiting line / Do you believe / In what you see

Ah and I'll shout and I'll scream / But I'd rather not have seen / And I'll hide away for another day

Do you believe / In what you see / Motionless wheel / Nothing is real / Wasting my time / In the waiting line / Do you believe / In what you see

Everyone's saying different things to me / Different things to me / Different things to me / Different things to me / Different things to me / Everyone's taking everything they can / Everything they can

New Slang
By The Shins

Gold teeth and a curse for this town were all in my mouth. / Only, I don't know how they got out, dear. / Turn me back into the pet that I was when we met. / I was happier then with no mind-set.

And if you'd 'a took to me like / A gull takes to the wind. / Well, I'd 'a jumped from my tree / And I'd a danced like the king of the eyesores / And the rest of our lives would 'a fared well.

New slang when you notice the stripes, the dirt in your fries. / Hope it's right when you die, old and bony. / Dawn breaks like a bull through the hall, / Never should have called / But my head's to the wall and I'm lonely.

And if you'd 'a took to me like / A gull takes to the wind. / Well, I'd 'a jumped from my tree / And I'd a danced like the kind of the eyesores / And the rest of our lives would 'a fared well.

God speed all the bakers at dawn may they all cut their thumbs, / And bleed into their buns 'till they melt away.

I'm looking in on the good life I might be doomed never to find. / Without a trust or flaming fields am I too dumb to refine? / And if you'd 'a took to me like / Well I'd a danced like the queen of the eyesores / And the rest of our lives would 'a fared well.

I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You
By Colin Hay

I drink good coffee every morning / Comes from a place that's far away / And when I'm done I feel like talking / Without you here there is less to say

I don't want you thinking I'm unhappy / What is closer to the truth / That if I lived till I was 102 / I just don't think I'll ever get over you

I'm no longer moved to drink strong whisky / 'Cause I shook the hand of time and I knew / That if I lived till I could no longer climb my stairs / I just don't think I'll ever get over you

Your face it dances and it haunts me / Your laughter's still ringing in my ears / I still find pieces of your presence here / Even after all these years

But I don't want you thinking I don't get asked to dinner / 'Cause I'm here to say that I sometimes do / Even though I may soon feel the touch of love / I just don't think I'll ever get over you

If I lived till I was 102 / I just don't think I'll ever get over you

Blue Eyes
By Cary Brothers

Wish enough, wise man'll tell you a lie / Window broke, torn up screens / Who'd have thought that you'd dream / Of a single tragic scene

I just wanna sing a song with you / I just want to take it off of you

Cause Blue Eyes / You are all that I need / Cause Blue Eyes / You’re the sweet to my mean

Fess it up, dot on the palm of your hand / I can help you to stand / Saved it up for this dance / Tell me all the things you can

I just wanna sing a song with you / I just wanna be the one that's true

Cause Blue Eyes / You’re the secret I keep / Cause Blue Eyes

All the lights on and you are alive / But you can't point the way to your heart / So sublime, when the stars are aligned / But you don't know / You don't know the greatness you are

Cause Blue Eyes / You are destiny's scene / Cause Blue Eyes / I just wanna be the one

I just wanna sing a song with you / I just wanna get it on with you

Cause Blue Eyes / You’re the secret I keep / Cause Blue Eyes / I just wanna sing a song with you

Fair
By Remy Zero

Hey, are you lonely? / Has summer gone so slowly? / We found the ground / And that damage was done / It's cold as you fade into the sun / Where'd you go? To me?

But you're alive! / Well, it's only / Fallen frames, they told me / You stand out, it's so loud / And so what if it is? / It's cold as you face into the wind / Where'd it go to? / Tonight the sun shall see its light

So what if you catch me, / Where would we land? / In somebody's life / For taking his hands / Sing to me hope as she's / Thrown on the sand / All of your work / Is rated again / Where to go?

And you were somehow the rain this thing could allow / But it's all wrong / You're so strong / And this life and work / And choice took far too long / Where'd it go? / Tonight the sun shall see its light

So what if you catch me, / Where would we land? / In somebody's life / For taking his hands / Sing to me hope as she's / Thrown on the sand / All of our work / Is rated again

When I was sure you'd follow through / My world was turned to blue so thin / When you'd hide your songs would die / So I'd hide yours with mine / And all my words were bound to fail / I know you won't fail / See, I can tell

One Of These Things First
By Nick Drake

I could have been a sailor, could have been a cook / A real live lover, could have been a book. / I could have been a signpost, could have been a clock / As simple as a kettle, steady as a rock. / I could be / Here and now / I would be, I should be / But how? / I could have been / One of these things first / I could have been / One of these things first.

I could have been your pillar, could have been your door / I could have stayed beside you, could have stayed for more. / Could have been your statue, could have been your friend, / A whole long lifetime could have been the end. / I could be yours so true / I would be, I should be through and through / I could have been / One of these things first / I could have been / One of these things first.

I could have been a whistle, could have been a flute / A real live giver, could have been a boot. / I could have been a signpost, could have been a clock / As simple as a kettle, steady as a rock. / I could be even here / I would be, I should be so near / I could have been / One of these things first / I could have been / One of these things first.

Lebanese Blonde
By Thievery Corporation

Too low to find my way / Too high to wonder why / I've touched this place before / Somewhere in another time / Now I can hear the sun / The clouds drifting through the blinds / A half a million thoughts / Are flowing through my mind

A satellite recalled your voice / Sent me round the world again / All the night you've dreamt away / Sent me round my heart again / One touch upon my lips / And all my thoughts are clear / I feel your smoky mist / Up to the stratosphere

Did you notify my way / To hide a wonder why / I've touched this place before, / So we're in another time / Now I can hear the sound / The clouds drifting through the blidge / A half a million thoughts / Are flowing through my mind (x2)

The Only Living Boy in New York
By Simon & Garfunkel

Tom, get your plane right on time. / I know your part'll go fine. / Fly down to Mexico. / Da-n-da-da-n-da-n-da-da and here I am, / The only living boy in New York. / I get the news I need on the weather report. / I can gather all the news I need on the weather report. / Hey, I've got nothing to do today but smile. / Da-n-da-da-n-da-da-n-da-da here I am / The only living boy in New York

Half of the time we're gone but we don't know where, / And we don't know here.

Tom, get your plane right on time. / I know that you've been eager to fly now. / Hey let your honesty shine, shine, shine / Da-n-da-da-n-da-da-n-da-da / Like it shines on me / The only living boy in New York, / The only living boy in New York.

Such Great Heights
By Iron & Wine

I am thinking it's a sign / That the freckles in our eyes / Are mirror images and / When we kiss they're perfectly aligned

And I have to speculate / That God himself did make us into / Corresponding shapes like puzzles pieces / From the clay

True, it may seem like a stretch / But it's thoughts like this / That catch my troubled head / When you're away, when I am missing you to death

When you were out there on the road / For several weeks of shows / And when you scan the radio / I hope this song will guide you home

They will see us waving from such great heights / "Come down now," they'll say / But everything looks perfect from far away / "Come down now," but we'll stay

I've tried my best to leave / This all on your machine / But the persistent beat / Sounded thin upon listening

That frankly will not fly / You will hear the shrillest highs / And lowest lows with the windows down / When this is guiding you home

They will see us waving from such great heights / "Come down now," they'll say / But everything looks perfect from far away / "Come down now," but we'll stay

Let Go
By Frou Frou

Drink up baby down / Are you in or are you out? / Leave your things behind / 'Cause it's all going off without you / Excuse me too busy you're writing a tragedy / These mess-ups / You bubble-wrap / When you've no idea what you're like

So, let go / Jump in / Oh well, what you waiting for? / It's all right / 'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown / So, let go / Just get in / Oh, it's so amazing here / It's all right / 'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown

It gains the more it gives / And then advances with the form / So, honey, back for more / Can't you see that all the stuff's essential? / Such boundless pleasure / We've no time for later / Now you can wait / You roll your eyes / We've twenty seconds to comply

So, let go/ Jump in / Oh well, what you waiting for? / It's all right / 'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown / So, let go / Just get in / Oh, it's so amazing here / It's all right / 'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown (x2)

Winding Road
By Bonnie Somerville

Well the rain keeps on coming down / It feels like a flood in my head / And that road keeps on calling me / Screaming to everything lying ahead

And it's a winding road / I've been walking for a long time / I still don't know where it goes / And it's a long way home / I've been searching for a long time / I still have hope / I'm gonna find my way home

And I can see a little house on top of the hill / And I can smell the ocean salt in the air / And I can see you / You're standing there and you're washing your car / And I can see California / The sun in your hair

And it's a winding road / I've been walking for a long time / I still don't know / where it goes / And it's a long way home / I've been searching for a long time / I still have hope / I'm gonna find my way home

All these dreams took me so far / When I felt I just couldn't go on / I wanna hang out the window of your car / And see how just how good this baby can look

Cause it's a winding road / I've been walking for a long time / I still don't know / Where it goes / And it's a long way home / I've been searching for a long time / I still have hope / We're gonna find our way home

Aww no download or link to a full song? Come on, you’ve lead us to greedy expectations these past two weeks ;) Don’t tell me the industry already took you down!

On a side note that’s actually quite relevant – that movie is totally awesome and I need to see it again.

I had to resort to getting my full-length track fix legally. I just bought Let Go on iTunes and I have no idea what I was thinking considering I’m on a dial-up connection. That only took 32 minutes.

*listening and reading the oh-so-conveniently placed lyrics* Thanks :)

That looks like an amazing lineup. Little sad to see the Zero 7 and Thievery Corporation songs were released a few years back (but, like the Nick Drake and S&G, worth another listen).

I like your Wax Lyrical days, great idea.

I was so affected by Garden State. The music moves me. Is the CD soundrack commercially available?

It is available Robert. If you can pick it up at a Best Buy or Circuit City near you or you could order it from Amazon following this link:

The movie was amazing, i gotta go see it again. also bought the soundtrack at the consession stand at the theatre. Been listening to it ever since. thanks for the lyrics!!

Just wanted to give you the real lyrics to "Let Go", from the liner notes on Frou Frou's album:

Let Go

drink up baby down
mmmm...are you in or are you out
leave your things behind
because it's all going off without you
excuse me, too busy
writing your tragedy
these mishaps, your bubble wrap
when you've no idea what you're like

So let go, let go, jump in
oh well whatcha waiting for...
it's alright 'cause there's beauty in the breakdown
so let go, let go, just get in
oh it's so amazing here
it's alright, 'cause there's beauty in the breakdown

it gains the more it gives
and it rises with the fall
so hand me that remote
can't you see that all that stuff's a sideshow
such boundless pleasure
we've no time for later now
you can't await your own arrival
you've 20 seconds to comply

So let go, let go, jump in
oh well whatcha waiting for
it's alright, 'cause there's beauty in the breakdown
so let go, let go, just get in
oh it's so amazing here
it's alright, 'cause there's beauty in the breakdown

AWESOME!!!!!!

This is the most amazing movie ever and the soundtrack is so perfect for it. I remember first seeing this movie in theatres and i was just captivated.

I can see why so many people love this movie. But mostly its stems from the soundtrack. The movie, in my opinion has no main point(story). Other than the underlying "discovering yourself" that lies in every movie i cant seem to find a real story. Great soundtrack though.

peace,
dark

I agree, the soundtrack is amazing.

There are only a few times I can recall being moved...this is one of them. The soundtrack is the perfect match to the movie.

I just wanted to say that the song "Such Great Heights" was written by Ben Gibbard who is in the band The Postal Service and Death Cab For Cutie. Great song! Loved Garden State!

WoW! Awesome movie with an even better soundtrack to go along with it. And it won the grammy for best soundtrack. Heck yes!!

Does anyone know who that song is by in the begining of the movie when the plane is crashing....I LOVE it but its not in the soundtrack = (

What is the name of the song playing in the background during the party scene while they are playing spin the bottle? It sounds like it's supposed to be playing in another part of the house and it does not appear on the soundtrack.

Thanks for posting the lyrics. Finally saw Garden State last week and searched high and low for the soundtrack until finally finding it at Strawberries. Been listening to it a lot. Blue Eyes and Winding Road are my faves on here. And to just comment on what others have written.. it was a very good and moving movie that the soundtrack only enhanced. Always liked Zach Braff in "Scrubs" and like him even more after this movie he wrote/directed.

Amazing movie and even a more amazing soundtrack, my congrats on such a great job well done Zach Braff!!!

Wow garden state was such a great movie Zach Braff definetly gets congrads for that. Not only was the movie outstanding but so was the soundtrack! Let Go, Caring Is Creepy, and Such Great Heights are sooo good and of course all the other songs too! I listen to the cd atleast 3 times a day i cant get enough of it!!

Garden State became my favorite movie after I saw it, and the soundtrack is perfect for what I'm going through in my life right now..
"Such Great Heights" is great therapy. Thanks for posting the lyrics!!

I almost memorized the entire movie and what songs were playing when, If anyone has any questions, just email me.

this movie IS amazing. the only people i know who like it are my sister and i. everyone else thinks it is boring but i love it. the best thing to do it watch the movie then watch it again w/ the commentary w/ Zach and Nat. I just bought the soundtrack today and i cant stop listening to it. The part in the movie where "the waiting line" plays is my favorite. there needs to be more movies like this out in theaters. <33

my brother and i just watched this movie and he really liked it. if you liked this movie, rent 'a polish wedding' it's hard to find but definitly worth seeing.

Could someone please help me to identify the 2nd song from the garden state trailer? These are not in the Soundtrack. I just found that the first part is the original version "Such Great Heights" By Postal Service, need the other, that one that plays just after Zach do the finger thing.

Thank you for your help.

Btw, this movie just moved me pretty hard...
