View from the not-so-cheap seats

So THIS is what a basketball game looks like from 8 rows up...

Cavs Action

I had the great fortune this past weekend to check out the Cavs with some sweet seats (section 126) that my dad scored from a friend who had season tickets and wasn't going to the game. These tickets normally sell for 120 bucks a piece, so needless to say I was extremely pumped. This was the first time I've been able to see the Cavaliers play in person, and it was the game where we unveiled our new blue road alternate uniforms.

Watching LeBron play live only reaffirms my belief that he is going to go down in history as one of the all-time greats by the time he retires. It was almost if he didn't even have to try and could just flip on a switch and take over whenever he needed to. Even though we ended up losing the game, I couldn't have had a better time. The action was exciting until the very last second, and I had a blast absorbing the energy coming off the crowd. I came away with some great memories and a brand new blue LeBron jersey...not a bad night at all. Click on the picture posted above to check out some more of my shots.

Game 7 excitement

The NBA finals have largely slipped under the radar this year because of the teams that are vying for the title. If you had to pick the two most boring teams in the league you would have correctly predicted Detroit and San Antonio. There's a part of me that wishes that Phoenix and Miami were playing for the championship. Between the uptempo game of the Suns and Wade feeding the ball to Diesel you would have plenty of highlights. What we have instead, however, is defense and team play taking center stage...and I for one am glad to see the fundamentals being showcased.

Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino

Congratulations to the most prolific passer the NFL has ever seen. Dan Marino was inducted into the Hall of Fame today in his first year of eligibility, and now has a permanent place in the history of football. Even when he played against the home team, I always rooted for Dan to do well. I was never able to get a #13 jersey as a kid, but always wanted to don that number. Every time I played backyard football he was the player I was emulating. When I ran around the house with the NERF it was his highlights that I was replaying. The quick release, the cannon arm, the intensity...all the makings of a champion. Even after all these years, he's still the man as far as I'm concerned, and the greatest quarterback to ever play the game.

Week 13 picks revisited

After a week off I'm showing some rust. A 9-7 record takes my season mark to 103-73.

- The Browns got the beating they deserved, at this point they'll be lucky to win another game this season.
- Philly showed me something last week and played great against the Packers. It's pretty much a lock for them to see another NFC championship game.
- Hey Giants, why continue to go with Eli? In three games he's shown NOTHING.
- The Seahawks show a lack of heart once again. That's twice this season the gutless wonders have crumbled in the fourth quarter.

Jose Canseco and seeing behind the curtain

It's been a long downward spiral for the player who was once on top of the baseball world. I happened to see an interview today in which Jose was talking about his upcoming book and how it will be the authoritative tell-all about steroids in major league baseball, and I can't help but shake my head. What the hell happened to this guy? He went from a hall-of-fame lock to a has-been who's making his money peddling a tell-all book. I still have albums filled with baseball cards and memorabilia of Jose's from his bash brothers days. I guess that even as a kid I knew something was going on when I saw how monstrously huge he became toward the tail end of his career. He went from a base stealing 40-40 double threat to a lumbering rhino who could no longer field fly balls.

NFL Picks, week 13

Arizona at Detroit - LIONS (I wouldn't be surprised if Navarre had a good game in front of the Michigan faithful to keep this game close)
Atlanta at Tampa Bay - BUCS

Buffalo at Miami - BILLS
Carolina at New Orleans - PANTHERS (They're poised for a playoff spot in the pathetic NFC)

Cincinnati at Baltimore - RAVENS
Houston at N.Y. Jets - TEXANS (Good weather, Carr and the rest of the crew are pumped after that comeback win, Pennington will be rusty)

Minnesota at Chicago - VIKINGS
New England at Cleveland - PATS

San Francisco at St. Louis - RAMS
Tennessee at Indianapolis - COLTS

Denver at San Diego - BRONCOS (I refuse to buy into the Brees hype)
Kansas City at Oakland - CHIEFS

Green Bay at Philadelphia - PACKERS (You better believe there won't be any 4th and 26 conversions today)
N.Y. Giants at Washington - GIANTS (This game will be a disaster, the Giants will win because of Tiki)

Pittsburgh at Jacksonville - STEELERS
Dallas at Seattle - SEAHWAWKS (Two teams with no heart, Seattle wins because Tuna is on the verge of suicide on the sidelines and isn't focused on coaching)

No NFL Picks for week 12

I just didn't get around to them in time, most of the games had already been started by the time I was online and ready to go. I'm glad in a way though, because I would have never picked the Bungles to beat the Browns and I would have suffered another loss courtesy of what I consider now to be the most inept football team in the league. Way to go Brownies.

Week 11 picks revisited

A 12-4 record puts me back in the saddle at 94-66 for the year. My faith in the home team, however, is completely shattered.

- I really don't care what happens to the Browns the rest of the way out. Big changes need to be made, people have to be let go and we have to start from scratch. I say we let another city take these Browns and we start again.
- I guess Eli wasn't the answer after all, eh NY? Put Kurt back in there and don't give up the rest of the season for a rookie.
- There's no reason to say the following, but I will anyways because it makes me shake my head. The only teams worse than the Browns are the Redskins, the Bengals, the Dolphins, and the Niners.

NFL Picks, week 11

Arizona at Carolina - CARDS
Dallas at Baltimore - RAVENS (The Tuna's sanity is on the line here. I expect to see a total meltdown when they lose this week)

Denver at New Orleans - BRONCOS
Detroit at Minnesota - VIKINGS

Indianapolis at Chicago - COLTS
N.Y. Jets at Cleveland - BROWNS (This is it. It's the last week that I go on blind faith with this team.)

Pittsburgh at Cincinnati - STEELERS
San Francisco at Tampa Bay - BUCS

St. Louis at Buffalo - RAMS
Tennessee at Jacksonville - JAGS

Miami at Seattle - SEAHAWKS
San Diego at Oakland - CHARGERS

Atlanta at N.Y. Giants - FALCONS (Eli is going to get another rude awakening this week. I expect him to perform poorly.)
Washington at Philadelphia - EAGLES

Green Bay at Houston - PACKERS
New England at Kansas City - PATS

Week 10 picks revisited

A 7-7 record puts me at 82-62 for the season, which is disappointing because if not for my stupid home team affinity I could have had a winning record.

- I'm THIS close to throwing in the towel on the season guys. I'm going to give the Brownies one last week...if they don't come through this week my faith is gone.
- Way to go on that clock management Jets. You looked like the Browns, who can't get plays on the field if their life depended on it.
- Just how bad are the Redskins? Whew. To lose to the Bungles the way they did is a bad bad sign.
- Guess what Giants, putting in Eli instead of Kurt isn't going to solve your problems. Getting an offensive line would do you more good. And oh yeah, showing up every week will help too.
